What is Hidden - What is Revealed

Chair for: Jose Angel Navarrete Gonzalez

Designed and created by jeanne bjorn

As I found more information about the 43 students and their lives, I was reminded how so much of their story has still not been revealed and why. My chair is to pay tribute to a very brave young man, who was learning to be an educator and activist and to also show the underbelly of the drug war, money laundering and other concealed information in both this country and Mexico that led to their dissappearance.

Biography [English]

Jose Angel Navarrete Gonzalez

José Ángel Navarrete González, known as Pepe, likes soccer so much that he may leave the classroom at any time to play in the school's field. At the end of playing, he rests with a popsicle in his hand and chats with whomever is around. He is not shy of making friends. He likes to have a good time every afternoon walking the streets of Tixla. José Ángel Navarrete is thin and in his face you can't miss his large black eyes with long eyelashes as well as a wide, white smile. His hair is black and short, straight up with trim sides. When he goes out to eat he always orders a Cuban tart and chats and chats about soccer. His hero is Messi. He had arrived at the Normal Rural Isidro Burgos a few weeks back; when his friends learned of the disappearance of the 43 students, they started looking for him and are still searching for him. They miss him for his silly jokes that raise everyone's spirits. Girls, in particular, remember his particular laugh, his sweet eyes, they say. Close friends were making plans to travel to Acapulco with him and now they are keeping the promise of suspending the trip until his return home. His father has been one of the most active organizer of the the search of the 43 students. He has become the spokes-person of parents at any rally held in Mexico City or where ever they go in their search. In his speeches he repeats over and over he will not rest until he finds his son and brings him back home.

Biografía [Español]

Jose Angel Navarrete Gonzalez
